Wonka Cookie Creamery

Nestle's Wonka subbrand has broken into the medium bar range with a brand new flavour, Cookie Creamery.  It's a new take on the popular cookies and cream flavour, but will it resonate with fans?

The 45g bar is small and compact, with packaging that matches the maroon colouring of the larger blocks. The bar inside is neat and each piece is well segmented, making the pieces easy to snap off. Each little bubble-shaped piece is topped with a letter from WONKA or the top hat logo of the brand.

The chocolate itself is sweet and a creamy light brown, and it only contains 22% cocoa solids, so don't expect this chocolate to be anything but milky and sweet. The moulding is well executed; I had no leaks, and the chocolate layer is suitably thick, too.

The filling inside is described as a 'vanilla cream', dotted with cookie pieces. The filling itself fills the entire bar; it's not separate to each segment. The filling is sweet and tastes a lot like buttercream icing. I didn't get any vanilla notes at all. The little pieces of chocolate cookie are small but add a good bit of crunchy texture. They felt fresh and crisp. The chocolate does make this a very sweet bar, and that's probably art of the reason that a serving size is only half the bar (four pieces).

Wonka makes this version of cookies and cream its own by adding a 'dash of secret sauce' to the mix. Each bubble segment that has a top hat logo is topped with this secret sauce. (The ones with letters are full of cookies and cream mix.) The sauce is a very light tan colour, and rather runny. It tastes a little bit like caramel, but softer and less intense. Its presence adds a bit of wetness to the bar and prevents it becoming too dry in the mouth. It's a shame there's only three of the sauce-added pieces in the bar; having it on all would be too many, but four would be a more even number.

As sweet as it is, Wonka Cookie Creamery gets a thumbs up from me. The cookie pieces add a good amount of texture and the sauce makes this just a little bit different to the other cookies and cream bars out there.

Score: 4.5 out of 5 jelly beans.

Wonka Cookie Creamery is made in Australia. It contains milk, wheat and soy, and is made on equipment that processes equipment containing peanuts and tree nuts.
