Cadbury Dairy Milk Crackle

Gosh, I am getting slack! Cadbury debuted five new block flavours way back in May of last year. I managed to review Cherry Ripe and Strawberries and Cream, but the remaining three - Picnic, Crackle and Toffee Crisp were sadly forgotten. Until now! Crackle has made its way to the front of the review pile, so even though this limited edition flavour is no longer available, let's take a look!

Cadbury Crackle is a large 210g block of the classic Dairy Milk milk chocolate, featuring rice crisps spread throughout. Although I understand puffed rice is not uncommon in the States, the only product we have here in Australia that I'm aware of with it is Nestle Crunch. That particular bar has been around for many, many years, so it's a wonder why Cadbury has waited so long to put out its own version.

While the front of the block appears similar to any other block of Dairy Milk, flipping it over reveals a surface bubbling with rice crisps. It looks like there's a lot of them, but they only take up 11% of the block. The milky, sweet scent of the milk chocolate is not impacted in any way by the rice, though it is not really something that carries a lot of its own scent anyway.

The pieces of puffed rice are light and airy, adding a good, crunchy texture to the chew. They add a little bit of a cereal flavour, just enough to tone down the sweetness of the chocolate. The chocolate is soft, allowing the rice crisps to take centre stage. I do find that the rice tends to stick a little in my teeth.

It's a nice, pleasant bar, not demanding much in the way of attention with its mild flavours.

Score: 4 out of 5 jelly beans.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Crackle is made in Australia. It contains milk and soy, and may contain traces of wheat, egg, peanuts and tree nuts.
