Snickers Limited Edition Almond

Here I am, running behind again! I originally announced the 2014 Snickers limited edition back in June last year (has it really been that long?). Contrary to my note in the Gossip post, Australia has actually seen Snickers Almond on its shelves before - it was released back in 2011. Mars and other confectionery companies do like to repeat their most popular limited editions, often as a part of market research that could see the flavour introduced to the regular line-up.

The cream-coloured wrapper is a rather different to the usual dark brown of the original Snickers (though not so different to the 2011 wrapper), but the bold blue logo is big enough to immediately identify the brand. Mars have started to introduce the yellow and black caution tape-style 'limited edition' labeling on their LE bars - you'll see it next on the Xtreme Caramel flavour - which gives it quite a masculine feel, fitting in with their target market.

The bar weighs in at 50g, the same as the original. My bar is sadly a bit squashed and leaky, but appears very similar to the original. It feels like a solid, dense bar, and has a strong nutty scent behind the sweet chocolate. The interior looks immediately different; the nougat appears lighter in colour, and the pieces of nut larger.

Biting into it immediately releases the toasty almond nut flavour - there's no mistaking this for your original! It's a bar that is absolutely less sweet than the peanut version; the almond seems to counteract the sweetness of the caramel and chocolate. The nougat tastes less sweet too, perhaps with a touch of salt.

Normally I am not a nut person in the slightest, but to me this is what a nut chocolate bar should taste like: the nuts centre stage over everything else. I really enjoyed the lack of sweetness and felt it complemented the nuts beautifully.

Score: 5 out of 5 jelly beans

Snickers Almond is made in Australia. It contains almond, wheat, milk, soy and egg. It may contain traces of peanut and tree nuts.
