Haribo Mega-Roulette

Common around the world but new to Australia, Mega-Roulette is a roll of disc-shaped gummis from German company Haribo. Google tells me they are pretty popular, going by the number of places where you can buy a whole box!

The 45g roll is wrapped in plastic with twisted ends, much like how Pascall Wine Gums used to be packaged (and Maynard's Wine Gums are now). The clear plastic allows a good view of the randomised assortment of colours inside. My roll holds 17 of the discs, which are shaped like a fat 5cm coin, and slightly concave on one side.

The gummis are Haribo's classic texture of bouncy but firm, breaking nicely when bitten. Although the pack describes the gummis as 'fruit flavoured', there's no code for what each colour stands for.  I also had a random assortment; only two each of yellow and orange but a fair amount of the others.

Green is sweet, and vaguely appleish. The flavour is mild but juicy. Clear is pineapple; there's a good tanginess that gives the flavour a clear pineapple note. It's also sweet and balanced. The red discs are some sort of berry - raspberry, I think. It's a lot more tangy and less sweet than the others, and reminds me a bit of cordial with a bit of a kick. Quite enjoyable. Orange is undeniably orange. It's a strong, juicy and bold flavour, with a touch of sweetness coming through as the chew continues. Finally, the yellow pieces are lemon; there's a refreshing, not-overly-sweet flavour that makes me think of homemade lemonade.

It's quite a good mix of flavours, keeping a good variety without it being too same-same or the flavours blending.

Score: 5 out of 5 jelly beans.

Haribo Mega-Roulette is made in Germany. There's no allergy statement but the ingredients list includes glucose syrup (from wheat).
