Cadbury Marvellous Creations Orange Lolly

It's time we took a look at the final new flavour for the Marvellous Creations block and bar range from Cadbury. The full title is 'Orange Lolly Orange Chew Fizzy Crunch' - let's see if the chocolate is better than the mash-up of words that is that name!

Head after the jump to read on!

As with the other two new flavours we've reviewed so far - Cola Popping Candy and Toffee Apple Crunch - the wrapper features the updated design for the range, including the fancy sentence case version of the 'Dairy Milk' logo. There's also the pink 'Special Carnival Edition' marker, though I haven't quite managed to work out why that makes the new flavours so special.

The bar contains 'orange lolly, orange chews, fizzy crunch' and Dairy Milk milk chocolate. Bonus points to Cadbury for referring to the lolly as lolly, rather than candy! The 'fizzy crunch' seems to be a firm, cylindrical-shaped lolly, about the size of a pea. Does anyone remember these lollies? They were a hard, kinda chalky, crunchy fruit-shaped lolly that had a touch of fizz to them. (My grade six substitute teacher used to reward us with a handful of these lollies when we were good, and we used to hoard them and trade amongst ourselves to get the red ones.) The pieces in this bar are a bit like those, crossed with Fruit Tingles. Very satisfying. There were lots of these in my bar.

There are thick slivers of a dense orange-colour lolly. They have a firm texture like a Redskin, but are orange-flavoured, and quickly dissolve, meaning they don't get stuck in your teeth - hooray! I wasn't a huge fan of these, as there's a bit of a bitter note that makes me think of candied orange peel. The final interesting ingredient is a transparent amber-coloured piece of hard lolly. I actually thought it might be popping candy (as we saw in the Cola bar), but no. As far as I can tell, it doesn't have a flavour, but adds that crisp texture to the bite.

Altogether, it's an interesting mix. The fizzy crunch lollies have a satisfying chalky collapse when bitten into; the orange chew is, well, chewy, and the orange lolly adds a good hard texture for a pleasing crunch. If you're not a fan of orange flavour - artificial or otherwise - don't stress, as it's not a prominent flavour in the bar. I liked the mix of textures, so if you like a good mix but aren't a fan of popping candy, this might be a good alternative for you over Cola.

Score: 3.5 out of 5 jelly beans.

Cadbury Marvellous Creations Orange Lolly is made in Australia. It contains milk, wheat and soy, and may contain traces of wheat, egg, peanuts and other nuts.
