Cadbury Marvellous Creations Cola Popping Candy

After the not-so-fun combination of Toffee Apple Chew (please don't hurt me Cadbury), I'm looking forward to trying the next new flavour in the stable of Cadbury's Marvellous Creations range. Like the rest of its brethren, Cola Popping Candy is a wacky combination of ingredients, mixed through Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate.

Head after the jump to read more!

Described as 'cola candy, popping candy, fizzy crunch pieces covered in delicious Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate', the mix sounds pretty interesting. This particular flavour is available in the medium bar and the large block, as well as the ice cream range, so Cadbury must have high expectations for it. Another interesting note is that the new flavours also coincides with a revamp of the MC range packaging, and the insertion of the new Dairy Milk lower case logo. The new flavours are all also labelled 'Special Carnival Edition'; I haven't determined that that particular phrase means in this context. It could be Marvellous-Creations-speak for 'limited edition', or marketing just wanted to whack on another label to help announce the new flavours. Who knows?

The new medium bars have shrunk from 50g to 45g, but it appears the older flavours are staying at the 50g mark. The mould remains the same though, with five sections. The chocolate is the main contender in the bar's scent; I wasn't able to note any other flavours. As with most bars that contain popping candy, they are the first product to announce themselves, sparking in the mouth. I only really came across the cola flavour once I bit into a piece, and I think it is mostly from the popping candy. It is a generic, sweet cola flavour, enhanced by the sudden burst of a larger fizzy piece. These larger pieces, although I didn't manage to capture one in the photo, are about the size of a dried pea, and have a strong cola flavour as well. They feel like they contain extra popping candy, but I'm not entirely sure.

As strange as it sounds, the chocolate and the cola go pretty well together. The popping candy impersonates the bubbling carbonation of the soft drink reasonably well, and the chocolate - well, it just works! I love that the flavour is not strong.

Score: 4.5 out of 5 jelly beans.

Cadbury Marvellous Creations Cola Popping Candy is made in Australia. It contains milk, wheat, glucose syrup and soy. It may contain traces of wheat, egg, peanuts and tree nuts.
